The Challenge: Retrofitting Safety into Existing Plans
Grossmont College, a vital educational hub in El Cajon, California, requires constant upkeep of its campus facilities. During a major infrastructure project managed by Conan Construction, a gap was identified: the facility needed a permanent fall protection solution, but the structural layout was already complicated by existing MEP equipment.
This presented a two-fold challenge. First, the rigid posts were already procured, but they were not designed for the specific lifeline system required. Second, the structural plan for the safety system physically conflicted with the building’s internal utilities.
