Cable Based Horizontal Lifeline Systems
FLS Cable based horizontal lifeline systems are a versatile fall protection solution that provides a safe means of tie off for workers in a variety of applications. With spans up to 180’ and supporting multiple users, FLS Cable lifelines provide an economical and efficient solution for workers at height.
Whether designed for an overhead application, such as an aircraft hangar, or at foot level on a roof, a properly engineered FLS Cable lifeline ensures the safety of employees and workers exposed to falls.
Pass Thru Capability
FLS Cable trolleys and shuttles on all cable based lifelines feature pass thru capability of intermediate support points. Eliminating the need to use double lanyards or disconnect from the lifeline reduces risk and improves user efficiency.
All Flexible Lifeline Systems are available in 316 stainless steel cable and components, ensuring they will last for 20+ years.
Cable versus Rigid Rail
There has been much debate about which is better, cable or rigid rail horizontal lifelines. When designed correctly, both cable and rigid rail lifelines offer excellent levels of fall protection. Rigid rail systems have the advantage of lower fall distances and are often preferred when work is performed less than 12’ above a lower level. Cable based lifelines have the advantage of practicality in scenarios where a rigid rail system is less feasible, such as on roofs, arena rigging grids and along overhead crane rails.
Cable Horizontal Lifeline Case Studies
Southwest Airlines – Maintenance Hangar Lifelines
The Southwest Airlines maintenance team required the capability to add two 737-900 aircraft near the front of one of their hangars requiring the engineering of atypical support connections for the system anchor points.
FlexRail Installation for a Warehouse
FLS installed approximately 900 total feet of FlexGuard Permanent Guardrail on various areas of the main building roof. Most notably, the area around the rooftop access hatch was able to be protected by FlexGuard Permanent, due to the versatility and adjustability of the product.
Overhead Horizontal Lifelines for Stadiums and Arenas
The project consisted of providing five new horizontal lifeline systems to provide workers an overhead tie-off while working on the rigging grid.
Multi-Span Lifelines for Building Maintenance
Flexible Lifeline Systems designed, supplied, and installed 32 Tieback Anchors, one 280 feet Multi Span Lifeline System, and one FlexGuard Portable safety railing.
Texas State University
Flexible Lifeline Systems’ scope of work included the design, supply, and installation of four Horizontal Lifeline systems. Two systems were positioned on Roof A and two systems on Roof B starting from the hatch and running the parameter of the rooftoop.
UTSA Rooftop Safety System
The FLS design included a structural analysis of the new building and a rigorous approval process to prove that the FLS system was a substantial improvement over the system originally specified for rooftop fall safety.
